Nepal: an assessment on Food Security

Food security is a basic human right1. This has been recognized by the government of Nepal who has given high importance to ensuring food security for all its citizens. Despite this, food security trends are declining: the national cereal deficit is widening, affects of climate change are uncertain but drought episodes and flooding are becoming more frequent, improvements in nutrition are insignificant and slow, and there is an increasing reliance on remittances as the main driver of economic growth.
